DAILY WALK AS A CHILD OF GOD Part 2

8 2 12 Daily Walk as a Child of God Part 2

DON’T FORGET TO PRAY!

Yesterday is in the past. Today is the present. It’s in the present that we write our past. What past are you writing today? If this was your last entry would you be seen as a child of God?

Your Daily Walk as a Child of God should be based on:

1. “The right kind of belief in Jesus Christ.”
2. “Walking in the newness of life. You are a “new creation” forget the past, the “old you” is dead.

Part 2: Scripture: 2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

Note: If you have exercised “saving faith” you are a new creation in Christ Jesus. Does your life and witness reflect this truth? I ended yesterday’s devotional with this statement: saving faith has noticeable results.  Have you seen noticeably spiritual changes in the way in which you live since becoming a Christian?  If so, this is good. If not, you need to ask the Holy Spirit to give you a new hunger and thirst for righteousness.  He wants you to read, meditate, and chew on His Word. If you will do this your hunger and thirst will be satisfied in the same way that physical hunger is satisfied and just as physical hunger returns so will your spiritual hunger return. As you continue to eat and drink the Word of life your faith will be increased, your outlook will be changed and you will walk the walk of faith. Your life will be noticeably different.

Are you “walking in newness of life as a new creation of God?”

If in fact you are a new creation in Christ Jesus, the old has gone. The old way of doing things, the old lifestyle that you lived prior to becoming a Christian all has been done away with; your old way of talking, your old way of acting, the places where you used to spend time, the love you had for movies, music, and books that were an important part of the old you, a part of the old self has been put to death. Your old self is identified with sin and death and a fallen world under the influence of a fallen angelic being, Satan. What might surprise you is the very things you struggle with in life have been a struggle in the lives of everyone since time began.  Fallen mankind was the same yesterday as he is today.

Case in point: Colossians 3:5-10 tells us we are to put to death whatever belonged to our earthly nature. Some of the things identified are very specific.  The old nature and its evil ways were universal to all people in Paul’s day just as they are today. The apostle Paul puts it this way: “put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.” He goes on to say, “You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator”(Col. 3:5-10).  The fallen nature of mankind is just as evil and ungodly today as in Paul’s day, 2000 years ago.

Thank God that even though I walked in the way that Paul describes above, I now walk in a totally different way. I have put to death the old self and now I walk in a visibly noticeable way that is different; I now walk in the Spirit as a born again Child of God. I live in my new self as a direct result of God’s transforming power; a transforming power that is in a continual process of conforming me into the image of Christ.

Word from the Lord: “Beloved, countless millions of others have preceded you in the faith and are testimonies to my grace being sufficient for their every need. They walked before me in faith and I fulfilled my purpose in each and every life, transforming them into the image of my Son. He is your example, your pattern of the One who walked in faithfulness before me. Allow my Holy Spirit to lead you and guide as you keep your eyes on my Son, Jesus Christ and your mind on heavenly things. The power that enabled me to bring everything under the control of my Son is the same power that will transform your lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. This is my promise to you.” (Philippians 3:17-21)

Did the Lord speak to you today?  Why not write it down and claim it for His Glory.

Prayer:  What do you need to pray to the Lord today? Listen to your heart. He loves you!
