Connecticut Father Kills Masked Intruder, Learns It's His Son

A father in Connecticut mistakenly shot his 15-year-old son outside a neighbor’s house during what appeared to be an attempted burglary, police said.
Jeffrey Giuliano, of New Fairfield, shot his son Tyler at about 1 a.m. Thursday. A woman who was alone in a neighbor’s house believed someone was breaking in and called Giuliano, who lives next door. Police said he armed himself with a handgun and went outside to investigate.
Giuliano encountered a person clad in black clothing and a black ski mask with a “shiny object” in his hand. The local elementary school teacher then fired his gun, killing the intruder, who was later identified as Tyler Giuliano.
State police said it will likely be a week before they’re finished an investigation into the fatal shooting. Spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said authorities are trying to determine if the gun used was registered. It’s also unclear whether the father or police were notified of the break-in first. [CTNow.com]
Note: I cannot begin to imagine how this father must feel. To do what he thought was the right thing only to discover that the result is one of horrible consequences. What was going on in the mind of this young man? Why was he dressed the way he was? Why was he out this late at night prowling around a neighbor’s home? Questions that will never be answered. What we do know is a tragedy has occurred and the heart wrenching pain is real. Not just in the father’s heart but his mother’s and family and friends as well. All are left with questions, questions that will never be answered in any way that makes sense or will bring a measure of relief.
All such tragedies are the result of mankind’s sinful nature. It is this nature that seduces mankind into doing evil and acting in ungodly ways. We hurt ourselves and one another because we are driven to satisfy our worldly hungers and desires through ungodly behavior. You would think that anyone would be able to see the difference in how Godly living is much superior to ungodly living. Think with me for a moment. Godliness is characterized by love, not just any love but God’s love. God’s love demonstrated in the life of a believer will always want the best for others. Our actions will do no harm to them instead our actions will be a blessing to them. Rather than attempting to bring them down in defeat it will attempt to help them stand in victory. Regardless of what the world may say, “We are our brother’s keeper” and our actions can and do change lives and God wants that change be for the better not for the worse. (Genesis 4:9; Galatians 5: 19; Galatians 5:22; Romans 14:13)
Word from the Lord: Beloved, to walk in the way of the world will always end in death, spiritual and physical. To walk in My Way will lead to eternal life. Speak often of My Way to others for you are to witness to the truth of My Word as I give you the opportunity. You speak and then let My Spirit do the work in their lives in bringing them to salvation.
Did the Lord speak to you today? Why not write it down and claim it for His Glory.
Prayer: What do you need to pray to the Lord today? Listen to your heart. He loves you!
